Halloween Anniversary Edition

Honestly I have everything in this box except for the Blu-Ray version and the mask so I won't be shelling out the money for this set, but for those interested here is the press release from DVD Active.
I'm actually pretty disappointed as I was hoping Anchor Bay would pull out something really special for Halloween's 30th anniversary but this is basically just a repackaging of what is already out there. I am glad to see the Extended version coming back in print for collectors, even though it is totally inferior to the original but otherwise this is a pretty unimaginative collection.
There are lots of goodies Anchor Bay could have come up with for this release as we have still yet to have a cast commentary (or a track for the many filmmakers influenced by the film) and the rumored outtakes that were discovered a couple of years back have to still yet to resurface. It's really too bad as Carpenter's masterpiece deserves more than this...

What a surprise, Anchor Bay coming out with YET another HALLOWEEN DVD set? I'll take a pass on this one as well.

They've also been guilty or repeatedly dipping for THE EVIL DEAD and ARMY OF DARKNESS. Blah.

Yea,
I got so burned out on THE EVIL DEAD reissues that it almost soured me to the film for awhile...thankfully I am over that now but I do wish they would stop, or at the very least release them with something new.

I know it's a case of rights issues, but it's really too bad that Anchor Bay couldn't port over the boxed set extras from the UK --HALLOWEEN 2 and 3 with commentary by Kim Newman and Alan Jones!

The mask is cool, but I'm not about to shell out 90 bucks for it, especially when everything you could possibly want to know about the making of this film has already been covered in the previous releases AND that 2-disc 25th Anniversary set. The only possible new angle, as you say, is to include something on its unmistakable influence on filmmakers ever since.

Just purchased the UK 4 disc edition of this film so think I'll pass on this one. I'm sure there will be other editions of Halloween to tempt our wallets with.

Have you listened to the commentary for HALLOWEEN III? I really like that one (unfairly maligned by critics) and am curious to know if that disc is any good.

what the hell is up with that mask?! i mean, whose face did they model that one after? it sure as hell isn't the shatner face from the original... must be someone's cousin at the mask studio. i mean, how scary is 'the shape' if he looks like your uncle buzz. sheesh.

very excited about the upcoming hitchcock releases (he's my absolute favourite filmmaker) and 'mother of tears' (haven't seen it either yet, 'cause that would've involved taking a plane somewhere).

AND... my dvd of 'night moves' just arrived and i watched it for the first time last night. what a freaking amazing movie with a perfect performance from hackman. i gotta say that it was because you seem to like a lot of the same stuff that i do, jeremey, that i went ahead and ordered the flick in the first place. i can now happily count it as one of my favourite movies. man, do i ever seem to have a lot of moseby days...

if you haven't seen it yet, kim morgan currently has a post about 'night movies' at her incredible sunset gun site.

Thanks everyone,
I'd love to hear those commmentaries mentioned. I am still peeved that the special Edition that was prepared for Halloween 2 was shelved.

Thanks Dave

This is really cool and much appreciated. I am really glad to hear you dug the film as well...thanks for the continuing support and I am heading over to Kim's site right now.
