This Man Was Not Lazy

I am still on vacation and barely have any time to write. Next week, upon returning, I am planning a big look at the new Dean Martin album FOREVER COOL that is streeting tomorrow. I did want to post a small response to a couple of news articles that I have seen recently.

I don't have any problem with someone who isn't a fan of Dean Martin's career but I do have a problem with people calling him lazy. This man was not lazy. From the early fifties well into the seventies, this man remarkably juggled a prolific music career, television series and a full time film career. Add that on to numerous public appearances, live shows and charity related causes and you have a man that for over thirty years worked his ass off...and made it look incredibly easy, which of course it wasn't.
In an entertainment world where artists can barely manage to do one of the above, the fact that Dean Martin was able to do all of them, and well, is quite remarkable. Many people who know nothing of the man will no doubt continue to take great delight in throwing around terms like 'lazy', but this is the furthest thing from the truth. The ease that Dean Martin projected was not only one of his biggest assets but also one of the most difficult roles he ever took on. This was a complex, hard working man who's image for many often overshadows his accomplishments.
Love him or leave him, just don't underestimate how hard he worked.

Regular postings will continue next week with a few more sporadic bursts throughout this one.

I can't wait for the new "Forever Cool" CD to drop. Dino is the essence of cool. I dislike for people to refer to him as lazy and that he wasted his talent. I've never understood that. Dino was at the top of his game in movies, music, tv, etc. He was a great all around entertainer. He is attracting new fans even after being died for over a decade. Dino is definitely the King of Cool.

Hey pallie Jeremy, thanks for your great words of Dinosupport and for sharin'your deep Dinounderstandin' of our King of Cool. Dino may have looked lazy, but that is fartherst from the Dinotruth. Hope you enjoy the rest of your vacation time. Lookin' forward to your Dinoreview of Dean Martin Forever Cool!

Well the real reason albums like this are made are for the record companies, like us, to bring more music to a younger generation. The music of Deano and the Rat Pack is classic and yet there is a whole new generation out there that has never really experienced it. So, on with the duets! Ed - the Music Man

Thanks Keith and Dino Martin,
I know we all share a real love for Dean and are looking forward to this album...
Ed, thanks for your comments and I agree. Regardless of the economical reasons for the album, if a young fan of a Joss Stone or Robbie Williams buys this album to hear them and falls in love with Dean then a good job has been done...thanks for all you comments.

if he could project the image that he's too laid-back to work and still do accomplish all he had, that's a true entertainer. he's eternally cool.

i look forward in anticipation to a posting on dean. i've been procrastinating on doing one for too long now.
