My look at McBride's Breathless at The Amplifier

My look at Jim McBride's audacious 1983 remake of Jean-Luc Godard's Breathless can now be read at The Amplifier for those interested.
The film, which I admire very much, was a failure at the time but can now be seen clearly as a precursor to Tarantino among several other modern genre mixing directors. Tarantino has in fact named McBride's undervalued work starring Richard Gere and Valerie Kaprisky a favorite.

I've never seen this before, so I'll have to check it out.

Very nice review. Just left a comment at Amplifier.

Nice review! It's been years since I've seen this film but it left me a little empty to be honest. It seemed like an exercise in style and nothing more. Altho, I did love Gere constantly ruminating on about the Silver Surfer, which obvious had a HUGE influence on Tarantino (see CRIMSON TIDE).

Very solid piece, Jeremy. It makes me all the more perturbed that the DVD is full-frame and makes me wish I'd picked up the widescreen laserdisc years ago when I had the chance.

I'm sure you'll be thrilled to know that Mondo Vision, a new outfit, will be releasing 3 Zulawski films on Region 1 in stunning new transfers--including LA FEMME PUBLIQUE (THE PUBLIC WOMAN) also starring Valerie Kaprisky.

The others are L'IMPORTANT C'EST D'AIMER (THE IMPORTANT THING IS TO LOVE) and L'AMOUR BRAQUE.

Tim Lucas just wrote about L'IMPORANT C'EST D'AIMER:
