Unknown said...: This is one of those films that haunts my dreams. I developed a big crush on Irene Jacob thanks to this film and RED only sealed the deal. This is just an incredible film that really illustrates the alluring screen presence of Jacob - the camera just loves her. It's a shame that no filmmaker since has been able to convey the same kind of mystique that she radiates in those two films.

This is the first of four Kieslowski films I will be eventually highliting in this series....hope those stills prove enjoyable as well....JD, I agree on Jacob. Yeah, I really got the feeling that she was his muse, of sorts. You really don't see that much anymore but they were a great team. It's a shame that they didn't do more films together.; September 22, 2008 at 11:10 AM

Steve Langton said...: Next to Red, this is the Kieslowski film I rate the highest, and no coincidence that Jacob is in both of them. KK did bring out the very best in her. She seemed totally at one with his themes and managed to convey a great sadness to her roles. Looking through his body of work, he really did have a very special talent for directing actors - you mentioned Binoche in Blue, Jeremy - and must have been a joy to work with.
