M.I.A. on Region 1 DVD Tribute Month (Film 20) Images From My All Time Favorite Films: Perfume of The Lady in Black (1974)
Francesco Barilli's beautifully composed and exquisitely shot Il Profumo Della Signora in Nero (The Perfume of the Lady in Black) is arguably the greatest Italian Giallo currently missing on Region 1 DVD. This eerie and wonderfully strange production from 1974 features a haunting score from Nicola Piovani, the wonderfully evocative and colorful photography of Mario Masini, and perhaps the greatest performance American actress Mimsy Farmer ever delivered. Currently available on a terrific DVD from Italy's Raro Label, The Perfume of The Lady in Black has still yet to receive any kind of North American release. Pity, as it is a major work.

Really nice to see this one get a mention, Jeremy. Terrific film, and fully agree with your comments re Farmer's performance. Used to own the Italian DVD, and it looks wonderful, with Bava-esque colours.

This is one of my favourite gialli. Unfortunately, I only have a fuzzy DVD-R copy that renders the cinematography pale and weak. The screen shots you've posted look great. I NEED a decent Region 1 release of this fine flick. And "The House That Screamed"
Glad to see that you've also posted about "The Last Shark". I've got a grainy DVD-R of that title waiting for me.

I know I keep commenting on old posts but Perfume Of The Lady In Black is a must comment. I recently bought the Raro dvd and I was stunned. In fact my friend Richard of Doomed Moviethon and I started a musical project we called Mimsy. What a beautiful film. It really needs a Region 1 release. Also, I would love to friend you on Facebook, but I don't have a Facebook page. This is a fantastic blog.

It's an amazing film isn't it? I first came across it in the nineties via a fuzzy grey market copy so I was thrilled when the RARO DVD came out. I still can't believe it hasn't been released here in the States on disc. More info please on that musical project Mimsy, as she is a real favorite of mine.
It has the most striking color transfer of any Italian Horror dvd I have seen. It was very surprising to me that out of scads of giallos and Fulci films and whatnot that I own that this film popped off the screen so vibrantly. Our musical project is named after Mimsy, as we are such fans of her work. Richard is one of the few that I have found that really, really love Autopsy. I don't know that as of yet our project has really anything to do with her other than the fact that we are both inspired by her performances. He's a guitar player and I am more of a producer. He sends me guitar on disc, I send him beat loops I wrote on my Korg sampler and we work that way. I add to his stuff, he adds to mine. It is working out very well so far. We are thinking of calling the disc "Sylvia's Mom's Dress". This (once again) is a fantastic blog, one that I really enjoy combing through the back pages of. I wish I had known you when you were at Western. My wife and I have trouble finding people to watch films with us. We had a giallo moviethon a few years ago that was inspired by Richard's website. It was not as well received as I had hoped and my thoughts of Hitchcock marathons, Welles retrospectives, and Truffaut screenings fell apart.
