Lars Von Trier's Melancholia: The Official Trailer

The first trailer for Lars Von Trier's upcoming Melancholia appeared online recently and I wanted to share it here for any who hadn't seen it yet. Also the dedicated folks over at my favorite Kirsten Dunst site have captured some striking stills from the trailer including the one above. Melancholia will be premiering at Cannes this year amidst some tough competition. I am having trouble thinking about any other upcoming film right now.

Pretty exciting isn't it?

It all seems very much a homage to Vinterberg's 'Festen' doesn't it? Well the first part anyway.

Possibly another infamous Trier bluff.

I simply can't wait for this.

Whoa! This looks awesome! I love Planet X Nibiru global destruction theory, as does any good melancholic, which Von Trier clearly is... this should rock, and if it's half as good as Antichrist, good lord.

Really? What about a little film called TREE OF LIFE directed by none other than Terrence Malick?! That one I am really looking forward to. Everything I've read about it so far sounds pretty amazing.

I saw this a couple days ago and since I have a love/hate (mostly hate) relationship with Von Trier I don't know how I feel about it. I think he's best when he toned down and straight forward (ala Breaking the waves) but something about his films always seems to artficial and condescending to me. Maybe this one will break that trend.

Nice one,Jeremy. Fully agree with Ercih's Anti Christ comment. We should be in for a real treat with this one.
