Big DVD Week

Tomorrow marks the release of several exciting titles on DVD including the long awaited special edition of Jean-Jacques Beineix's Diva, the new special editions of the all the Dirty Harry films, Olivier Assayas' Boarding Gate starring Asia Argento and the Will Ferrell comedy Semi-Pro.
Diva features a scene specific commentary with Beineix as well as a whopping ten featurettes. The Dirty Harry box set features new transfers as well as a load of extras including new and vintage documentaries and commentaries. Semi-Pro (which I loved even though hardly anyone else did) is a loaded up two disc affair and Boarding Gate appears to have some interviews and a featurette on Asia.

I'm *very* excited for the John Milius commentary over MAGNUM FORCE. It's my absolute favourite of the sequels, and I'm curious to hear how the screenplay credit shakes out [especially with Cimino tagged as a writer on the project as well].

I'm really excited by pretty much most of these. Really been wanting to see Boarding Gate.

I dug SEMI-PRO as well. I thought it started off slow but halfway through it really hit its stride. Plus, Will Arnett was funny as hell -- love that guy! He easily stole every scene he was in. I also thought the attention to period '70s detail was excellent.

The 2-Disc Unrated DVD is nice, load of extras, including a nice featurette on the history of the ABA.

Me too Aaron...that Milius commentary promises to be a lively one. I wish they would have gotten soemone besides Schickle though for the DIRTY HARRY talk...his commentaries that I have attempted are typically painful, smug sounding affairs that offer little. I hope this one proves different...still I am super psyched about the set.

Thanks Keith...yea, that one has been one of my most wanted for the better part of the last year or so.

God bless you JD! I am glad I am not the only Semi-Pro fan around. Honestly put Will Ferrell in a seventies comedy and I am there. Anchorman is rarely away from my player...I have like the whole movie set to memory. Can't wait to get a look at the extras on Semi-Pro...thanks again

The DIVA release has really excited me. I've seen this film at the theatre, on video and Laserdisc and expect great things from the DVD when I eventually get it. Be nice to listen to the director's commentary on this.

Jeremy: Yeah, SEMI-PRO is a no-brainer for me. Basketball? the '70s? I'm there! I too love ANCHORMAN and watch often as well. There are just so many funny moments in that one - insanely quotable dialogue. Do you have the Special Edition with the extra film comprised entirely of outtakes? A must for any fan of this flick. There's rumblings that they wanna do a sequel. Man, if they can get everyone back (I don't see why not), I'm so there for that one...

Thanks Steve,
Yea I will be glad when I can pick up DIVA...I am on a real tight budget right now but will as soon as I can and hope to post on it, it's such a great film.

Thanks JD,
When I heard the rumor they were planning a sequel to ANCHORMAN a few months back I nearly wet myself! The idea of getting those guys together again in those roles brings me great joy. Bryan Fantana alone needed an entire spin-off series (sixty percent of the time, it works everytime!)
I do have that original double disc set...I even have the third disc that was exclusively at Best Buy...one of my favorite sets in my whole collection.
Thanks again...

heh! and I love Ferrell's reply, "That doesn't make any sense." The way he delivers that line cracks me up every time.

Yeah, that third disc of ANCHORMAN is pretty choice. Loads of extra goodies on there for any devotee of the film.
