"Well, I've flown seven million miles. And I've been waiting on people almost 20 years. The best job I could get after my bust was Cabo Air, which is the worst job you can get in this industry. I make about sixteen thousand, with retirement benefits that ain't worth a damn. And now with this arrest hanging over my head, I'm scared. If I lose my job I gotta start all over again, but I got nothing to start over with. I'll be stuck with whatever I can get. And that shit is scarier than Ordell."

I adore Pam Grier, but this movie not so much. I'd rather see her in her classic blaxploitation movies like Coffy.
I thought her performance in Jackie Brown was terrific. But I don't think Tarantino really captured the essence of classic blaxploitation.
I love, love, LOVE this movie. Saw it three times in the theater and was so blown away by the acting. Robert Forster especially. My favorite scene is at her apartment when she's talking about she's getting older and he says, "Your ass spread out a little," and she says, "A little," and he smiles and says, "Ain't nothing wrong with that!"
This is one of the few movies of recent memory that had the guts to have a love story with older people. Absolutely beautiful.

Thanks for the comments. I know JACKIE BROWN divides folks but it's actually my favorite Tarantino film. I love Pam's performance in it. That said, I would have loved to have included one of her early roles as well but behind the scenes shots are hard to come by. Thanks again...

I feel the same way you do and I choke up just thinking about the scenes between her and Forster. I still can't believe whe wasn't nominated for Best Actress that year! Thanks so much for your thoughts, they were great to read.
I agree that COFFY is my fave Pam Grier film, and I'm also partial to the underrated FRIDAY FOSTER which gave Pam her best supporting cast outside of JACKIE BROWN, but I'd rank those films 1 and 3, with JACKIE in the middle when talking about my favorite Pam Grier films. JACKIE BROWN gets better with repeat viewings, something I can't say for some of Tarantino's better known films.
Jeremy, I guess I'm just not a Tarantino fan. I like the same movies that he likes and I do respect him for being fairly open about his influences and for trying to promote the movies he grew up loving.
I've often thought that Tarantino's tragedy is that he has too much money to work with. If he had to make movies on the kinds of budgets that people like Jack Hill had to work with I think he'd make better movies. That kind of guerilla film-making where you have to improvise and you can't worry about being slick - I think that would have suited his approach more.
