Polanski's Cul-de-sac on Criterion

Roman Polanski's absolutely amazing 1966 feature Cul-de-sac is finally hitting Region 1 DVD and Blu-ray on August 16th with a brand-new special edition from The Criterion Collection. The film, one of Polanski's finest, is a tremendous work and features startling performances from Lionel Stander, Donald Pleasence and the incredible Francoise Dorleac, who was tragically killed in a car accident shortly after the film's release. Criterion's special edition includes a new high definition transfer supervised by Polanski, a 2003 documentary on the film and an archival interview with Roman from 1967. To say this is one of the year's essential home video releases is an understatement.

I've never seen this one and have heard it's kind of awful. Maybe I need to get on seeing it. Funny how a lot of early Polanski work really divides the masses like that.

I'm a big Polanski fan but have always found trhis to one of his weakest films

I can remember when this was really hard to find. Nice to know it is now easily available in a HD transfer.

I recall it being a rather effective film. And, if I recall, it fits in with the Polanski theme of the victim becoming the bully.
