Images From My All Time Favorite Films: Andrei Tarkovsky's Solaris (1972)

Thank you to the much missed Andrei Tarkovsky for making such a beautiful film. Choosing just ten stills from such a visually stunning film was not easy...but it was a pleasure.

Gorgeous. I think you could just pick any 10 frames of this film at random and they'd be great. It's not my favorite Tarkovsky film -- it's a bit slow and occasionally awkward in its drama -- but its imagery is definitely stunning. For my part, I have a hard time picking between Stalker and Mirror as the best Tarkovsky.

Thanks Ed,
I am still playing catch up on Tarkovsky but this one really haunts me. I think the first 45 minutes or so aren't as successful as the last two hours of the film, but once it kicks in it has a real hypnotic effect on me that few other films have. As always, thanks for the comments.

Always love to see you giving props to my man. Now you've just got to get some Bresson stills from UNE FEMME DOUCE.
